5 crore take part in Shahi Snan

kumbh

The ‘Mayni Amavasya’ saw an estimated 5 crore devotees taking the holy dip at the Sangam (confluence) of the Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati (which no longer exists in its physical form). The Kumbh witnesses a total of three Shahi Snans which are believed to be the most auspicious time to take a dip. The first Shahi snan takes place on Makar Sankranti the second was this one at Mauni Amavasya and the third Shahi snan would take place on Basant Panchami(Saraswati Puja) on February 10. This year’s Mauni Amavasya is being considered even more auspicious by many as it fell on a Monday the day associated with Lord Shiva, as the maximum number of participating Akharas are Shaivaites. The Kumbh would continue till March 4 and it is expected that anywhere between 10 to 12 crore people would take part in it.
