India’s message to United States on Kashmir

India reiterated its stand on Kashmir making it clear in no uncertain terms that any discussion on Kashmir with Pakistan would take place bilaterally.  External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar gave a strong message to US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in bilateral meeting in Bangkok.

Jaishankar in a tweet said that he has conveyed to his American counterpart Mike Pompeo on Friday morning that any discussion on Kashmir, if at all warranted, will only be with Pakistan and only bilaterally.

Jaishankar met the US Secretary of State Pompeo on the sidelines of the second day of 9th East Asia Summit Foreign Ministers meet in Bangkok.

Jaishankar is in Bangkok to attend a series of meetings including the ASEAN-India Ministerial Meeting. The External Affairs Minister also met Vietnam Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh and the Foreign Affairs Minister of Timor-Leste, Dionisio Babo Soares on the sideline of the ASEAN-India Ministerial Meeting. He also held a bilateral meeting with Foreign Minister of Mongolia, Damdin Tsogtbaatar.
