56 Dead due to landslide in Myanmar

The death toll in Myanmar landslide has climbed to 56. The landslide hit a village in Paung township in Mon state on Friday.  Apart from the landslide in Paung, houses and a school in other townships were washed away, roads were blocked and villages were submerged.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs has confirmed that monsoon flooding has displaced more than 7,000 people in Mon state.

The UN said that nearly 12,000 people have been displaced in Myanmar last week. This brings the number of those in evacuation centers to more than 38,000.

 Several states in Southern Myanmar are currently reeling under floods as the thousands are left stranded with the Army being involved in the rescue and relief efforts. As per the UN’s Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs approximately 89,000 people have been displaced due to floods.
