Hundreds of tourists remain stranded near Chandra Taal Lake in Lahaul and Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh because of a freak snowfall in the region.
Government officials confirmed that approximately 150 tourists were stranded in Chandra Tal lake which lies in the Spiti region of the Lahaul Spiti district. Chandra Tal lake is situated at an altitude of about 4,300 metres (14,100 ft) on the Samudra Tapu plateau, overlooking the Chandra River.
Authorities said that tourists could not be rescued because of unfavourable weather conditions but assured that a team of rescuers is on its way. At least 24 people have lost their lives since August 16 across Himachal Pradesh as continuous rain lashed the state. Himachal Pradesh recorded its highest single day rain on August 18 in eight year(since 2011).
