Heavy rainfall, flash floods kill 62 people in Sudan

The toll from heavy rainfall and flash floods in Sudan continues to rise, latest reports have confirmed 62 deaths and 98 people are said to have been injured. Heavy torrential rains hit Sudan since early July adversely affecting approximately 200,000 people across the country including the capital Khartoum.

The southern White Nile state is the worst affected region. The UN  in one of its releases said that more than 37,000 homes in the country have been destroyed or damaged. Things could further deteriorate as the rainy season is expected to last until October.
