Chairman of Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) Vinai Kumar Saxena has claimed that Khadi has registered a tremendous growth after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal to people to use it.
PM Narendra Modi has attempted to popularise Khadi use as a tribute to the father of the nation Mahatama Gandhi. In his monthly radio broadcast ‘Mann ki Baat’ he gave a Mantra of ‘Khadi for Nation, Khadi for fashion’. During the October 2014 edition of MKB he appealed to people to use at least one Khadi product as it will benefit the poor.
October 2, 2019 would mark the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, in 1918 Gandhi ji started the movement for Khadi to support the poor masses living in India’s villages and relieve India of dependence of foreign clothing.
The Khadi movement began promoting the spinning of Khadi for rural self-employment and self-reliance.
