Patel Assures Full support to Ladakh for its New Tourism Policy

Shri Prahlad Singh Patel, Minister of State for Culture and Tourism (Independent Charge) has assured the soon-to-be union territory full support from its ministry for the formulation of its new tourism policy. Patel was on a three day visit to Ladakh where he held meetings with all local tourism sector stakeholders.

He stated that if the need arises the tourism ministry officials would visit Ladakh every month to oversee the formulation of the new tourism policy and to supervise the progress of tourism in the region.

The Minister observed that Ladakh currently has 14 monuments under the Archaeological Survey of India(ASI) protection and he promised that more monuments from Ladakh and Kargil would be brought under the the Archaeological Survey of India’s jurisdiction. ASI plays an important role in the preservation and renovation of monuments.

Members of Travel Trade of Ladakh expressed happiness that the Minister took the time out to conduct the meeting voiced the need for better infrastructure, connectivity and tax rebates for promotion of tourism in the region.
