WTO nod to US to impose trade sanctions on EU goods

The World Trade Organization has given a go-ahead for the United States to impose trade sanctions on up to USD 7.5 billion  worth of European Union goods. This follows a ruling that European aircraft manufacturer Airbus received illegal subsidies.

A WTO arbitration panel ruling found that the European bloc member States Germany, Britain, France and Spain failed to remove improper subsidies for Airbus that hindered sales by US rival Boeing.
