Would Oppose Alteration of Borders: Ramesh

Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh who is in Manipur as part of the six member Congress delegation said his party would oppose re drawing of maps of any of the North Eastern states. Ramesh alleged that the centre is conducting the Naga peace talks in a very non transparent way and his party would oppose any agreement that changes the map of Manipur, he pointed out that when the Congress was in power during 1980’s under Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi the Central Government was able to sign 3 peace accords one each with Mizoram, Assam and Tripura without changing borders of any state. Former Manipur Chief Minister Ibobi Singh also said that any move to alter the map of Manipur would be opposed tooth and nail by his party. Last week the Union Home Ministery had declared that no settlement with the Naga rebels would be arrived at without taking other state holders that is Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur into confidence, the Home Ministry had also advised people not to believe in rumours.
