The Ministry of Tourism, Government of India and the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment, Government of Finland have signed a Memorandum of Understanding(MOU) for enabling cooperation in the field of Tourism. From the Indian side Shri Prahlad Singh Patel, Minister for Culture and Tourism(Independent Charge), signed the MOU whereas Timo Harakka the Minister for Economic Affairs and Employment, Government of Finland signed it representing the Finnish side.
Over the years India and Finland have maintained a strong diplomatic and economic relationship. Finland is coming up as an important in bound source market for India. In 2018, 21,239 Finnish tourists visited India. The signing of Memorandum of Understanding with Finland is likely to lead to an increase in tourist arrivals from the Scandinavian nation. With the rise in disposable incomes more and more Indians also go for foreign trips and the youth are keen to explore new destinations as well.
Now that the MOU has been signed it would lead to increase in sharing of data, knowledge, expertise etc. related to tourism and sharing experiences in making polices, regulation and standards in planning, implementation and development of tourism policy, encouraging development of partnerships in the context of multilateral development programs and projects of international Financial Institutions, in which both participants have common interests.
