Delhi's Coldest Day in 119 years

Delhi is witnessing unusually low temperatures making this December one of the coldest December since 1901. Last week the lowest recorded temperature stood at 2.4 degree Celsius, the India Meteorological Department(IMD) estimates this to be the harshest winter in many decades. Till 14:30 hours today the highest temperature at Safdarjung observatory stood at 9.4 degree Celsius and Palam recorded a highest temperature of 9 degree Celsius, Aya Nagar was still colder recording 7.8 degree Celsius as its highest temperature. Delhi and adjoining areas witnessed thick fog in the morning due to which rail and flight services were hit, 21 Delhi-bound flights had to be diverted, cancelled or rescheduled.
Almost 30 trains are reportedly running late. IMD had already issued a ‘red’ warning on Saturday predicting extreme weather conditions in the coming days. Average temperature of Delhi this December is likely to measure at 19.1 degree Celsius which is a rarity as only 4 years since 1901 the average December temperature has been below 20 degree Celsius.
