Afghan security forces kill 13 militants in separate incidents

Kabul, June 23 Afghanistan’s Ministry of Defense on Tuesday confirmed the killing of 13 Taliban militants in clashes with Afghan national Army soldiers in two Afghan provinces.

Nine Taliban insurgents were killed in the southern Kandahar province when they faced a counter-attack from army soldiers in the Maiwand district late on Monday night, Xinhua quoted the ministry as saying in a statement.

Four more militants were killed by a patrolling convoy of security forces in the Marja district of Helmand province on Monday evening, the statement added.

The statement claimed that the security forces also confiscated heavy arms and ammunition including improvised bombs, one vehicle and eight motorcycles, one telecommunication radio, as well as and an amount of narcotics during the two conflicts.
