The authority have temporarily closed down the Blue Flag beach for visitors after the death of a youth while bathing in the sea safe zone on the October 27.
A portion of Puri beach was developed to meet the criteria to get the Blue Flag status at a cost of Rs.15 crore.
It got an international Blue Flag beach tag by the Federation of Environmental Education on October 11, 2019.
However,the death of the youth forced the district administration to close down the blue flag beach for the visitors as a precautionary measure.
Manas Majhi, the security manager of the beach claimed that there is a lack of adequate number of life guards in the Blue Flag beach.
